“The Mystery Behind the Female Gaze”
A woman’s beauty does not only lay in her physical appearance. On the contrary, her beauty comes from her perseverance, determination, creativity and her dedication to fulfil her own potential. All these things are present in the female gaze and wherever her eyes may look to, her gaze is firmly set on her final goal. Onlookers can only guess what lies behind the female gaze.
In this portrait series I display young and talented women, who – besides all the limitations of a small community like ours, have never stopped trying, creating, and have taken the trouble to make their mark in our cultural landscape. These women are actresses, artists, directors, writers, makeup artists, designers and all-around creatives, who give their strongest voice to one art form or another. Their enthusiasm is a force to be reckoned with and my main inspiration for eternalizing their gaze – which is sometimes happy, sometimes seductive, sometimes secretive, but is always strong and courageous. That is why I wish to dedicate this exhibition to them and through it to pay a humble tribute to their success so far, with the hope that my country will begin a process of true valorisation of the many groups of cultural creatives in the future.
